Discrepancy between the Image Held by Nursing Students of Themselves as Employed Nurses during the Pre-Employment Period and the Post-Employment Reality Faced by Novice Nurses

The difference between the expectations of work an individual forms before joining organization and their perception after becoming member is called reality shock has a significant impact on reasons why new nurses leave jobs. To reduce shock, it necessary to clarify discrepancy image oneself employment, which source expectations. However, while there large body literature among nurses, no studies have specifically investigated student nurses’ post-employment confidence. We conducted semi-structured interviews with eight nursing students who had received job offers 10 professional up two years graduation differences that hold themselves as employed during period immediately employment they find employment. As result, four core categories (with 25 categories) related participants’ images were extracted: life adaptation work, workplace, career foundation-building. Fourteen extracted regarding found employment; upon comparing classifying these according categories, lack concreteness in students’ was identified. results suggest support measures, both basic education program clinical hospital practice, improve can prevent turnover entry into workforce.
